What is Magnify?
Magnify empowers and inspires designers and researchers to create equitable services and to transform the design and research fields to always centre equity.
Magnify was founded in 2021 to centre people most impacted by exclusionary design and to create space for critical reflection about our design practice. Through learning, sharing and advocacy, we can move the field towards equity-seeking design approaches together.
I. Brand Visual expression, Graphic Design and UI Design
My involvement in the project started in May 2023. Working under Magnify’s founder, I:
Evolved the Brand’s Visual expression on Social media
Improved the website’s typography, layout and navigation
Focused on templates and data consistency
I designed and delivered assets that supported the marketing strategy including:
internal decks
social media templates
UI touchpoints
📝 Note: The Visual Identity of Magnify Conference was originally created by Triet Pham.
II. Website UI
Leading up to and during the conference, the Programme page is one of the most critical parts of the website.
I improved the layout of the Programme page and iteratively adapted the design based on the feedback from the team. Below you can see the before and after.
In short, I worked on the following:
Replaced the ‘infinite‘ scrolling by an accessible Tab function to ensure that users did not get lost within the page and could easily re-orient themselves
Created labeled session categories (Talks, Workshops etc) to help users identify what type of session it is
Created subpages for Talks, Workshops and Panels that had further information that was not necessary upfront
Improved overall layout and typography hierarchy to help guide users in understanding what information is important

III. Social Media posts
Social Media posts are critical touchpoints that showcase the Brand expression, and bring people to the website. Therefore, they should be a cohesive extension of a brand’s website.
While supporting the Social Media strategy from a Design perspective, I ensured the harmony between the post visuals and the Magnify website.
I improved the typography hierarchy, the overall layouts, and created abstract illustrations to increase the variety of visuals.
